TWO speed cameras sites in Barnsley have been axed.

Cameras on Rotherham Road at Cundy Cross and Wombwell Lane, Stairfoot, have been scrapped as part of an ongoing review looking at the future of speeds cameras in the borough, which began more than a year ago.

The South Yorkshire Safety Camera Partnership, which operates the cameras, regularly reviews its fixed speed cameras, identifying sites that, based on their location, speed profiles and casualty history, should be considered for decommissioning. Results of the review will also help determine which of the existing old Gatso-style cameras, which still use wet film, will be replaced with new digital technology.
