PUPILS at Silkstone Primary School are in for a dose of rocket science - quite literally.

They have been selected to take part in an experiment growing rocket from seeds which have been kept on the international space station where British astronaut Tim Peake is currently based.

But the Silkstone project has been an extra boost because the Royal Horticultural Society, which is running the initiative, were so impressed with posters produced by class four pupils at Silkstone to advertise the event that they have put them up on their website, as well as sending gifts for pupils who have won prizes for their work, said teacher Jane Felton.

Rocket science works by getting schools to grow seeds which have been in space alongside ‘control’ seeds from normal sources and to then compare the results. Oxspring primary school is among those involved in the national project.
