YOUNG people in Wombwell have made a new version of the board game Monopoly based on places they value in Wombwell - and places they would like to see.
After making a standard size version using a make your own monopoly kit, they decided to make a giant version which they could walk around to play.
Community Partnership youth worker Andrea Smith worked with the teenagers from the Next Generation Volunteers to make the board.
She said: “It came about when the community engagement officer asked what young people valued in Wombwell, and rather than a questionnaire we thought we’d be creative.”
Andrea said they had made lists of all the services, facilities and amenities that Wombwell had, and what they would like to have, and then took a vote. The most popular features went on the most expensive squares on the board.
Andrea said: “An ice rink has gone on the most expensive Mayfair square. A kids' pub was high up as well.
“But they didn’t just pick things for kids. There’s an old folk's home, a cemetery and a hospital came quite high.”
