TWO young mums fear their children have been the subject of abduction attempts.
Both were pushing prams when they were approached by strangers who claimed to have bad backs and needed help picking something up.
One of the mothers had to pull her toddler son from a man after he had grabbed him in the Alhambra underpass.
On another occasion Gillian Touhey was stopped by a woman on Sheffield Road who tried to distract her and convince her to leave her twin four-month old girls.
The pair both used the same 'bad back' story.
Police sergeant Derek Barker confirmed the force had received complaints about suspicious behaviour towards mothers with young children.
He said: "We advise anybody with young children to be aware of the situation and to be extra cautious."
A spokeswoman for the NSPCC said she could not comment on individual cases but said child abductions were rare.
