MORE than 700 youths aged ten to 18 in Barnsley are facing serious challenges including abuse and neglect according to a national children’s charity whose volunteers are hitting the streets to show their support.

The Children’s Society says at least 179 of these vulnerable young people are 16 and 17-year-olds, who are considered to be ‘in need’ according to local authority figures.

These young people are dealing with serious issues including abuse, neglect, disability, chronic illness and poverty.
