PARENTS will have less of a say in how their children’s schools are run if plans to do away with ‘parent governors’ go ahead, a school governor of 29 years has said.

Margaret Gostelow chairs the Barnsley Governors’ Association and is also vice chairwoman of Barnsley’s biggest school, Horizon Community College.

She says a government white paper which proposes ending the requirement for schools to have parents on their governing bodies would be a blow to local accountability.
