BETTY Allison (nee Grafton), who lives in County Durham, has submitted a photograph of form VA at Barnsley Girl’ High School in 1947.
It was taken in the year before she attended Saffron Walden Training College for Women, in Essex. Betty is fourth from the left on the second row from the back.
Her father, Larrett Grafton, was in the RAF during the Second World War, but had to leave after a leg operation. He is on a photograph with other airmen when he was stationed at RAF Cranwell, Lincolnshire. He is fourth from the left on the front row.
After leaving the service, he returned to Barnsley and worked as manager at the Royston branch of the Barnsley British Co-operative Society.
Just before Betty went to college, her dad became manager of another Co-operative Society at Meadowfield, just outside Durham City.
Betty qualified as a teacher in 1950 and met her husband in 1954. They have a daughter Diane and a son Jeff. They also have a 25 year old granddaughter, Sarah.

The pupils Betty remembers are: Rita Langdon, Mary Willis, Nora Ruse, Joyce Midgeley and Barbara Lawson. The teacher on the photograph was Miss Vernon, the needlework mistress.
Betty who became a headteacher, retired in 1990. She hopes to visit Barnsley this summer.
