HEALTH bosses defended their decision to award a contract to the Barnsley Healthcare Federation.

The £10m contract for Lundwood Surgery and Grimethorpe and Shafton’s Highgate practices - which have all been run by the Hill Brow Partnership for the last five years - was awarded to the newly-formed Barnsley Healthcare Federation earlier this year.

It is made up of 28 of the 36 GP practices in Barnsley.

But patients complained after being told only locum GPs will be available for the three surgeries.
