ALL 40 workers have been made redundant at a Darton clothing factory because the firm is on the brink of liquidation.

Staff at BSB Quality Clothing Limited were called to a crisis meeting on Monday when a liquidator told them the firm is in financial difficulty.

One worker told the Chronicle the news was a blow but not a surprise.

She said: “We were called to a meeting and have been told we are being made redundant with immediate effect. The firm has been trading years, it’s a shame and people are upset.

“People have been on reduced hours and some had been laid off. I think there are people who have worked there from day one.”

The meeting at the family-run Station Road premises lasted about half an hour and staff were given a form to claim a redundancy payment from the government.

Yesterday director Jagjit Singh Bains, of Longside Way, Pogmoor, was at the site. He said there were complicated issues to be resolved but said the company could be saved if buyers or investors could be found.

But he said the company could be wound up Monday, June 25.
