MAYOR of Barnsley Dave Leech took part in last Saturday’s parade in the town centre, which marked this year’s Armed Forces Day.
Steve Bentham-Bates, from the Help 4 Homeless Veterans charity, said: “The charity has been chosen by the mayor, himself a veteran of the Light Infantry, as one of his two charities to support.
"When we first met in the town hall to discuss this we discovered that Tom Wood, our founder, and Dave had served in the same unit in Northern Ireland together without realising it before.
"Last Saturday we were delighted to meet the mayor and mayoress.”
