A VULNERABLE pensioner who was conned into handing over sentimental jewellery by a bogus official has now been told he can’t claim on his insurance.
Joseph Hyde, 81, of Hawthorne Way, Shafton, opened his door on the morning of July 13 and was confronted by a man who purported to be from Highgrove Care Home, Stairfoot, which he was due to move in to later that same day.
Only a handful of people had known the pensioner was due to move.
The bogus official claimed the care home needed to weigh every new occupant’s jewellery and the trusting victim, who lived alone, allowed the man to leave with six necklaces and a bracelet which were insured for £6,000 with Bradford-based Integra Insurance Solutions.
