COUNCIL bosses have given the go ahead for a new service to provide support to residents experiencing problems with homelessness, mental ill health, substance misuse and offending.
At present there are 12 individually contracted support services delivered in Barnsley by seven different providers. Following last week’s approval, the council will now begin the process of selecting providers to deliver the new Multiple Support Needs service.
It follows a national study into the prevalence of people with a range needs of relating to homelessness, substance misuse and offending to give an estimate of the level of multiple needs in each local authority area.
The findings concluded that Barnsley had a higher than average incidence of people with multiple support needs than similar authorities.
