PERMANENT doctors are now in place at two GP surgeries in Grimethorpe and Shafton, the Chronicle can reveal.
Highgate, which has practices at Acorn Way, Grimethorpe, and High Street, Shafton, was controversially taken over by the Barnsley Healthcare Federation on April 1 after the Barnsley Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) - which sanctions the town’s health services - opted against retaining the previous provider, Hill Brow.
The decision was widely criticised by the surgeries’ existing patients, who turned up in numbers to voice their concerns at two public meetings at Shafton Community Centre which heard about the federation’s alleged reliance on locum GPs.
