CALLS have been made for Shafton’s long-running issues with gangs congregating in its park to become a policing priority.
Teenagers have been using Shafton Community Centre’s car park and kids’ play area as a meeting place since last summer and despite reports of laughing gas, alcohol and marijuana allegedly being consumed, police and council bosses opted against retaining it as a priority as August’s Community Engagement Meeting.
Shafton Parish Council chairman Dave North told the Brierley, Grimethorpe and Shafton Crime and Safety Group that scores of teens have been causing a nuisance in recent weeks and said it was important that police patrols return to the area.
