THERE is no place for hate in Barnsley - that is the message from the police commander for Barnsley.
Ch Supt Tim Innes gave an emotive speech on Wednesday as part of an event held outside the transport interchange to mark National Hate Crime Awareness Week.
He and representatives from the council, Berneslai Homes, Barnsley College, schools and community groups were there for the formation of a ‘mini-forest’ of small ornamental trees from which messages of support from the public were hung on labels specially designed for the event.
The trees will now be planted in community and public venues across the borough, including parks and gardens.
