A DARFIELD pensioner was stabbed with a knife and beaten with a wooden pole by a hooded gang while putting rubbish outside his home.

The retired electrician, 65, of Cliff Road, said a youth hit him on the back and on the legs with a 3ft 6ins length of wood.

He clung to the wall to avoid being knocked to the ground. But then a girl came out of the next drive with a large pocket knife and pressed it into his back making two or three puncture wounds.

Three other youths stood watching. As headlights came down the road the two attackers paused and the victim managed to escape and ran back into his house.

Some houses on Cliff Road are empty after being flooded, and it is believed the attackers had been stealing flag stones and other items in the area.

The attack happened at about 10:40 on Monday night. The victim, who did not want to be identified, said it was the most terrifying experience of his life.
