A LIVE music venue in Barnsley whose reputation has been marred by noise complaints can stay open later after it was given the go-ahead by the council’s licensing board.

A convincing case was put forward by applicant Barrie Treanor for the The Old School House, formerly known as the Polish Club on Blackburn Lane, Barnsley.

He had originally requested to stay open until 2.30am but following talks with the licensing and pollution officers he agreed to scale this back to 1am after six objections were made by residents on Blackburn Lane.

At present the club, which attracts bands from across the country, can open 12pm to 12am, Monday to Saturday, and 12pm to 11pm on Sundays.

Under the new licence, it can open 11am - 1am Monday to Saturday, and 11am-11pm on Sundays, and can play live and recorded music indoors weekdays and Saturdays until 11.45pm and until 11pm on Sundays. Alcohol will not be sold after midnight Monday to Saturday, or after 11pm on Sundays. Outdoor music will be turned off at 9pm.
