PUPILS at Darton Primary School have raised more than £1,000 to help the victims of the village floods.

They held a sponsored skipathon on Monday, July 16 and appointed local vicar Rev Simon Reynolds and wardens of the All Saints’ Church to distribute the money among the worst affected.

Headteacher Jacqui Parr says the school’s thoughts go out to those who have suffered great hardship and loss and she praised pupils’ efforts to help.

She added: “They should be very proud of themselves and I'm sure their efforts will be much appreciated by the people in Darton.”

The Chronicle also understands the sum has been matched by an anonymous donation.

Mr Reynolds said: “The scale of the flooding in Darton was not as dramatic as other areas of South Yorkshire, nonetheless i do know that homes, businesses and lives have been hit in ways that are just as dramatic as those who bore the brunt of the floods."
