AN open afternoon will be held this summer for former teachers at Elmhirst School before it closes.
The school, previously known as White Cross and Worsbrough High, is due to be replaced by the Barnsley Academy in September after 55 years.
Former teachers are being sought to take part in the event on Wednesday July 19 and will include displays of pupils’ work and a drama production. In the evening there will be a buffet and get together at the Edmunds Arms in Worsbrough Village. Organiser Viv Scott said she had searched on the Friends Reunited website and was appealing for former staff to contact her.
She said: “Hundreds of staff have worked in the school over the years, and I’d like to invite everyone along to our event to mark the end of a school era.”
Viv is also appealing to former pupils and staff for photographs of the school through the years so they can be transferred onto a DVD as a souvenir.
