LOCAL people will be asked what they think about plans to knock down Barnsley’s ageing fire station and rebuild it.
The proposals, which involve using £4m from South Yorkshire Fire Authority’s reserves, are part of a wider scheme how fire services will be delivered between now and 2020.
The draft plan was presented to the fire authority - which oversees the running of the fire service - on Monday and members approved its content.
The plan aims to make more firefighters available in the day when crews are busiest, changing its prevention work to focus on those most at risk and exploring opportunities to collaborate with other emergency services.
One of the key changes includes rebuilding Barnsley fire station.
