A BID to take over a closed building described as the social hub of Grimethorpe is being considered by Barnsley Council.
The Chronicle can reveal that an unknown organisation has applied to the council to lease the Welfare Hall, which has been closed since last September, and has become a magnet for antisocial behaviour.
The building, off Clear View, was initially taken over by OSCAR - a not-for-profit group which provided help to families and youngsters - after Brierley Town Council’s abolition last May but rising crime led PCSOs to patrol the venue and it is currently a top priority for the Barnsley East Local Policing Team.
