A CRANE company which has been repairing and servicing large machinery without council permission has been given the go-ahead to continue despite complaints from nearby residents.
Cranes UK LTD of Wentworth Industrial Park has been given retrospective approval by the planning board to change its site from warehouse to industrial use.
The decision was made against the wishes of local residents who argued the crane repairs were excessively noisy and undertaken outside of working hours.
Rob Johnston, 45, of Stone Row Court said residents had not been notified of the changes. He said: “It’s all been very secretive and we haven't heard a thing from them.
“Barnsley Council once again have just quashed the wishes of the residents.
“They don’t take any notice of what anyone says, so long as it is not on their doorsteps.”
Environmental health had initially objected to the application on the grounds of noise and disturbance to homeowners.
Three complaint letters were received and a petition containing 40 signatures.
But officials now feel that concerns have been met with the promise of an acoustic fence and strict control over operating hours.
