PENSIONER Shirley Poynter is helping ‘push the button’ to raise vital funds for Barnsley Hospice.
Thousands of buttons had been donated to Barnsley Hospice over the years but it was a huge task to sort them all out nobody knew quite how to display them in the hospice’s charity shops.
Shirley, who began volunteering with the hospice when it opened in 1994 and whose husband was cared for there, has spent hundreds of hours over the last year stitching thousands of buttons onto display cards so they can be sold.
They are proving very popular and have already got the tills ringing.
“It was just a job that needed doing,” said Shirley, 81, of Broadway, Barnsley.
