WHISPERS nightclub has been stripped of its licence after councillors decided they had had enough following a catalogue of problems.

The council’s licensing board subcommittee had been asked by police to review the premises licence following an incident which saw a man stabbed at a private party in December.

The Regent Street club, which has been closed since January, had already been subject to stringent conditions imposed last year amid concerns about underage drinking, crime and disorder.

Regulatory services officer Debbie Bailey said the stabbing incident - which is being investigated as attempted murder by police - highlighted the ‘major failings’ of management.
