flood victims should soon be able to apply for their share of the £250,000 relief fund allocated to Barnsley by the government.

Next week council leader Steve Houghton will ask cabinet colleagues to agree that all of the money is divided between the flooded households.

If the move is approved it will mean £400 for each of the 638 properties affected.

The council has already spent about £1m in trying to repair the damage caused by June's rain.

Among the works were emergency accommodation, replacement of furniture, waste removal, free gas and safety checks, welfare rights sessions and environmental clean ups.
