A KEEN runner who has suffered from epilepsy for ten years - and at one time had more than 20 seizures a day - has completed a 10k race to raise money for an epilepsy charity.

Student Katie Lee, 17, of Long Causeway, Monk Bretton, took part in the Bradford 10k on Sunday.

Katie developed epilepsy when she was six and at its most aggressive, she could have more than 20 seizures a day.

She said: “It was really scary waking up in hospital once and being told I had been unconscious and not breathing; not just for me, but for my mum and dad. It really knocked my confidence too.”

It was the Barnsley Parkrun which opened Katie’s eyes to running. In August 2013 she went along to support her dad but found herself wanting to take part.

She said: “I was really nervous at the start because I’d only ever done physical activity at school, but I think my parents were even more nervous. Dad ran with me the whole way, and it was tough but lots of fun.”
