A PRIVATE enforcement firm paid to tackle littering and dog fouling in Barnsley has come under fire from councillors for ‘taking the easy option’ by targeting people who drop fag ends.

Issues surrounding the performance of Kingdom Security were discussed at a meeting of the Central Area Council during talks about extending its own contract with enforcement firm.

The area council, made up of councillors from the Central, Kingstone, Stairfoot, Dodworth and Worsbrough wards, pays Kingdom to send out officers to enforce littering and dog fouling in those areas.

Other area councils also have contracts with the firm and it also provides a separate enforcement team for Barnsley town centre.
