MAVIS Flint simply brushed away the wasp that stung her, moments later she was unconscious and fighting for her life.
She had been enjoying an afternoon in the garden with a friend when she felt a sting in her leg, and unperturbed she gave it a quick rub.
The mark was barely noticeable but within seconds she had lost her sight and her next memory is waking up in Barnsley hospital A&E.
Mavis, of Rowland Street, Barnsley, said: “The feeling that came over me after the sting wasn't painful. In fact it sounds a bit daft but if you have to die it would not be a bad way to go, it was just like shutting down.”
Friend Mo Raynor, a retired nurse, put Mavis in the recovery position while they waited for an ambulance.
Paramedics gave Mavis two shots of adrenaline but she has been told neither worked and it took about two hours of treatment at the hospital before she came round.
