INDIVIDUAL iPads have been handed out to all 170 year 11 pupils at a Barnsley secondary school to help them boost their prospects in GCSE exams this summer.
Darton College is thought to be the first secondary school in Barnsley to issue one-to-one iPads to students, which they can take home with them as well as use in class.
They can use them to access a range of educational resources such as revision material, sample exam questions, but in their own time they can use them to access Facebook and Twitter and other age-appropriate ‘apps’ as long as they are used responsibly.
They all feature a filter system to protect them from inappropriate online content.
Principal Kate Davies said she hoped long term to be able to spread such access to technology throughout the school if the pilot project with year 11 proves successful.
“It’s already having an impact in terms of motivation,” she said.
