RABBIT Ings country park has topped a list of the best Yorkshire walks.
Created by the Land Trust, the list has narrowed down some of the region’s best open spaces to help encourage people to stretch their legs and get fit.
The former colliery yard and spoil heap of Monckton Colliery, in Royston, bagged the number one spot.
The Land Trust recommends the park for families, who can make use of the footpaths, cycle routes and sports pitches.
They said: “This much-loved park has fantastic paths for walking and cycling, lots of benches to take in the views, sports pitches for kicking a football around, and even bridleways for horse-riding making Rabbit Ings a great day out for everyone.”
A suggested walking route for Rabbit Ings is available on www.thelandtrust.org.uk. The walk follows a stretch of the Barnsley Canal and passes through the wetland of Pool Ings before entering the park. The three-mile route will take around two hours.
