A MOTHER whose family claim she looked like a person from a concentration camp when she was moved from a residential home into hospital has died.

Mary Ellen Darby, 94, formerly of West Melton, died in Barnsley Hospital less than three months after being placed in care at The Beeches care home, Wath-upon-Dearne.

A post mortem revealed she died from natural causes.

Her son, Jim, 67, described how nurses cried when she was admitted to hospital on August 10.

“Her eyelashes were stuck to her face and her hair was matted and stuck to her neck. She had walked into that home on June 6 suffering from Alzheimer's, but was fit and healthy."

A spokesman for The Beeches said: “We deny any neglect and all appropriate steps were taken to give Mrs Darby care and attention while she was with us. She was a very frail lady with Alzheimer’s in the late stages of her life.”
