AN OUTDOOR wedding space is being created at Cannon Hall as part of a major investment to boost income for the museums service in the coming years.
Barnsley Council officers have agreed to spend £100,000 on a ‘multifunctional’ semi-permanent outdoor structure which it believes will ‘enhance’ the current wedding offer and events space at the Cawthorne tourist attraction.
Cannon Hall already offers wedding ceremonies but these are held within the stately home, with the ballroom and library used for ceremonies and receptions offered in other areas within the home including the Spencer Wing, servants’ hall, Victorian kitchen and drinks in the Cottage Garden.
The council said the major investment will help bump up income through increased wedding bookings, private hires and events and contribute to its key priority to improve commercial income. Initial projected figures are £30,000 in years one and two, growing to £45k by year three.
