Barnsley are due to begin their 2017/18 Championship season at their former head coach Lee Johnson's Bristol City on August 5 while their first home league game is against Mick McCarthy's Ipswich Town on August 12. 

They then host Nottingham Forest on August 15 before completing the first month with a derby at newly-promoted local rivals Sheffield United and a home game with newly-relegated Sunderland. Their first game of 2018 is also due to be against Sunderland on January 1, completing a Christmas and New Year schedule that sees them host Preston on Boxing Day and Reading on December 30. 

The derbies against Sheffield Wednesday are on October 28 at Hillsborough and February 10 at Oakwell while they hosts Leeds on November 25 and visit Elland Road on April 21. The Reds host Sheffield United on April 7.

The Easter Period has them at home to Bristol City then away at Forest on the Monday. Their final game is at Derby County on May 6 while the final home game is against Brentford on April 28.
