A HEAVILY pregnant mother and her family have been left without fresh water for months because of lead in their service pipes.
Council tenants Elizabeth and Gareth Hall and daughter Georgina, eight, of Uplands Avenue, Kexborough first noticed the discoloration in the supply 12 weeks ago.
The couple contacted Yorkshire Water which took samples for analysis on July 19.
YW told them at that time the supply was of good quality and the results were within regulatory requirements for lead content and were satisfactory.
The company also said the field technician who carried out the samples had suspected the bits causing the discoloration could be lead from the internal service pipe.
Elizabeth, 32, is 27 weeks' pregnant and told the Chronicle she is concerned for her family's safety. She said: “At first we were drinking the water and bathing in it but as we started noticing more black bits appearing we stopped using it straight away.”
