ARE you getting the broadband speed you are paying for?
Problems which saw hundreds of Virgin Media customers suffer sluggish broadband across Barnsley have been resolved, the firm has said.
A Chronicle investigation earlier this year revealed customers were paying for speeds up to 100 times faster than the speeds they were actually getting.
However it said at the time that engineers were working to expand capacity in Barnsley, and a spokesman has told the Chronicle all problems in the area were now resolved. The spokesman said a test carried out last Tuesday showed a customer in Barnsley on a 200Mbps package was getting speeds of 220Mbps at the peak time of 6pm.
Back in February customers of Virgin Media had complained to the Chronicle that the firm was continuing to connect new customers to its super-fast broadband network in Barnsley despite knowing it was not fit for purpose. Adding more customers was making the matter worse, customers claimed, after being told by engineers that the problem was that too many people were using the bandwidth available.
Some customers on packages supposedly of 200Mbps were getting between just 3 and 10Mbps at peak times.
But Virgin now insists in Barnsley at least, the problem has gone away.
