PLANS for more lifesaving defibrillators in Barnsley town centre have been revealed.

Funding options are currently being looked at after councillors at the North East Area Council expressed their disappointment at there being just a handful of the devices, which are used to administer lifesaving electric shocks to heart attack victims.

It comes weeks after Street Pastor Owen Gleadall launched a campaign to fund a defibrillator which is available after midnight for people who have been out in town.

Coun Margaret Sheard said: "There's one in the town hall and one at Westgate but it's not enough. The amount of people who pass through the town centre daily suggests we could do with more.

"Ward alliances across the town could potentially fund one each."

There are also devices at Wellington House, The Core, and the transport interchange, although there is limited availability when those buildings are closed at night.
