POLICE are investigating the death of Hoyland man Martin Richardson who was found in the street close to his home early today.
It is believed Mr Richardson, 56, was still alive when he was found by a passer-by outside his home in Greenfield Road, near the Barber Street junction.
Although she tried to revive him he died later in the morning.
Relatives said Mr Richardson had apparently sustained head injuries, but the circumstances of what had happened to him remained unclear.
They were expecting an update from South Yorkshire Police after scenes of crime officers had examined the scene and a post mortem had been conducted.
