A MAN became so fed up with antisocial behaviour he donned a balaclava, chased a youth and allegedly threatened to kill him.

The man chased a gang who had been in the Lundhill area and caught up with the slowest of the group on Dove Road. Police say the man pinned the youth to the ground and allegedly said words to the effect of ‘clear off or I’ll kill you.’

Sgt Phil Jenkins of Wombwell and Darfield Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) said he takes an extremely dim view of people taking the law into their own hands.

He said: “Not only do we have nuisance youths to deal with, we’ve now got a balaclava-clad vigilante roaming the streets.

“We cannot have people taking the law into their own hands. I am all for people working together and forming Neighbourhood Watch groups and taking the right sort of action.

“But we will pursue anyone who gets involved in any sort of vigilante behaviour.”

The boy was not believed to be injured but his parents complained to the police and the SNT are making enquiries and appealing for any witnesses.
