WINTER is coming...

The Barnsley beach, which is next to Market Parade in the town centre, will be white over with a wintry flurry forecast for September 2.

The snow will fall precisely between 12pm and 1pm as part of a clever gimmick by the council to reveal who is switching on the Christmas lights in Barnsley.

Along with a sprinkling of snow, to be created by snow machines, there will also be entertainment and festive fun.

The white stuff will continue to fall throughout the town centre during the Christmas shopping season, which begins on November 22 with lights switch on. That date is also the start of late night shopping in the town.

Saturday, September 2 is the final day of the beach before the sand is cleared away and taken to Elsecar Park to be used on a volleyball court.
