A KIND-HEARTED Barnsley man hitchhiked more than 1,000 miles across America to help clean up the devastation caused by hurricane Harvey.

Daley Parsons, 30, on a cycling tour of America when the hurricane hit but he didn’t know the disaster had happened as he was in the remote wilderness of Colorado in an area called La Garita.

It was only when he returned to civilisation and switched on the news that he saw Texas was in the grips of the devastating weather storm.

Without hesitation Daley abandoned his travel plans and the next morning he got his stuff together, packed up and started hitch hiking the 1,000-plus miles to Texas to offer his help in any way possible.

He made it to Houston and is now working with an organisation called United Way helping people whose homes were flooded to begin the massive clean up operation following the disaster.
