Paul Heckingbottom is not convinced by EFL plans to consider moving the transfer window to before the seasons starts.

Premier League clubs yesterday voted in favour of the move with lower league clubs now set to discuss the same issue.

The Reds head coach does not feel that would work for a club like Barnsley whose business plan is, at least partly, based around selling some of their best players, potentially to clubs outside the UK.

He told the Chronicle: “I don’t think that proposal would work and it needs a bit more thought.

"What if we develop a player and then a club from abroad want to buy him for a big price that we are happy with? Either we have to sell him and have no replacement because our window has already closed or we miss out on a lot of money.

“Even if the window shuts at the same time for every club in the world, all the leagues start and finish at different times so there will always be someone who is unhappy. I don’t know how you can get round it. It’s a difficult one.”
