IT COSTS more to issue a fine for dog fouling and littering in Hoyland, Wombwell and Darfield than it does anywhere else in Barnsley, new figures show.

Papers published by the council show significant differences in the costs of issuing tickets between five of the town’s area councils - leading to one area council slashing the number of officers it employs to dish out fines.

The sums involved have come to light following a meeting of all area council managers last month when a borough-wide exercise took place in relation to the Kingdom service - which is paid by area councils to send out officers to enforce littering and dog fouling - to see how much it costs to issue a ticket for each of the area councils.
