CHILDREN as young as six have have been excluded from Barnsley schools for sexual misconduct, the Chronicle has learned.

Figures obtained under the Freedom of Information Act show more than 40 children have been temporarily barred from the town’s primary and secondary schools for incidents of a sexual nature in the past four years.

The behaviour that saw primary pupils disciplined included a male pupil exposing his genitals to another child and a female pupil simulating sex and trying to pull another pupil’s underwear down.

At secondary school, incidents included taking a photo of a semi-naked pupil, attempting to pull down another student’s skirt, harassment and sexual comments made to both staff and pupils.

Inappropriate sexual conduct on social media, possessing indecent images on a mobile phone and showing inappropriate images from a phone were also listed as reasons for fixed term exclusions.
