THE inaugural Barnsley Active Schools Awards was attended by 150 people earlier this month.
The evening recognised the outstanding achievements and contributions of schools and individuals who are making a real difference in embedding physical activity into everyday school life.
Awards were presented to young people who serve as positive role models within their schools, encouraging others to be active and helping to create engaging and inclusive playtimes.
A total of 17 categories were contested, with winners and those ‘highly commended’ named throughout.
A spokesperson said: “The evening was a fitting celebration of the collective effort to create healthier, happier and more active school communities across Barnsley.”
The winners were: Tankersley St Peter’s CE Primary School, Kirk Balk Academy twice, Thurgoland CE Primary, Wellgate Primary School, Horizon Community College twice, Burton Road Primary School, Outwood Primary Academy Littleworth Grange, Oakwell Rise Primary Academy, Ross Edwards, Jack Heald, The Forest Academy, Joseph Locke Primary School, Darton Academy, and youngsters from the schools.
