A PROJECT to help the unemployed back to work in hospitals and health centres has been praised in an independent review.

The Employability scheme, run by the NHS to give training and work placements to the unemployed, has been labelled excellent by the University of Leeds.

Regional project leader Roger French said Barnsley’s project is the first of its type to be supported by a Regional Development Agency.

“Strong evidence shows that being in work can be good for physical and mental health.

“Re-entering the workplace is often accompanied by improvements in health and well-being, as well as the obvious economic benefits of finding fulfilling work.”
