X FACTOR starlet Holly Tandy is hoping she can win Simon Cowell round this week.
The judge was unimpressed last weekend and called her performance old-fashioned.
Holly, 16, of Darton, sang One More Try for George Michael week, which is one of her dad Chris’s favourite song and means a lot to her.
But she is hoping she can show how diverse and current she can be in this weekend’s ‘Crazy in Love’ quarter final which will see four finalists leave the competition.
She said: “I was really excited to perform last weekend, I felt it had gone really well. I was a bit gutted about what Simon said but I’m hoping to bring a more current song this weekend to show I can be more diverse and current.
“It’s Crazy in Love week this week, so all the songs are about being in love or heartbreak. I can’t say what my song is, but I’ve been working hard and I’m really excited about it.
“It is a double elimination this week so I’m a bit nervous about that. It was supposed to be last weekend but was changed at the last minute because Simon felt people needed the chance to show what kind of artist they could be. I’m hoping everyone in Barnsley can pull together and vote for me.
“I’m having such a good time and I don’t want to go. It would mean the world to me to get through to the semi-finals.”
Holly got to spend some time with her mum Jo, dad Chris and sister Lydia, 20, who travelled to London to surprise her at the X Factor house on Chris’s birthday.
They enjoyed lunch out together before Holly returned to her rehearsals.
“It was a complete surprise, I was playing ping pong with Rak-Su and it was a real shock. It was quite emotional, but it was lovely to see them on my dad’s birthday. I just want to make them proud and I want to get through to make them even more proud.”
By her own admission, Holly is loving living the high life and has attended events such as the ITV gala and the film premiere of Daddy’s Home 2. She is also hoping to be able to perform at Oakwell, the home of her beloved Barnsley FC.
But she’s keeping her eye on the main prize - the X Factor final.
“The final is not that far away, but it would be great to get through to the semi finals. I don’t know about the final, I don't know what the voting figures are, but I’m just hoping I’ve done enough. To come back to Barnsley on that big red bus would be a dream come true.”
