PARK-GOERS will finally be able to get a nice hot cuppa when Elsecar Park Cafe reopens nearly a year after the previous tenants shut up shop.

Alison Baxter and Fran MacDonald signed a five-year lease with the council about two months ago but urgent repairs stopped them moving until this weekend.

Alison, 37, said the family could not wait to get the cafe running and were not put-off by opening in winter.

She said: “With the summer that we've had I'm actually glad we’re opening in the winter. To us it doesn’t matter as we'll be open all year round anyway.”

Alison previously ran a burger van in Platts Common and partner Fran was a self-employed plasterer. But the couple fancied a bigger challenge and jumped at the chance when the vacancy arose.

Fran, 39, has fond memories of the park from childhood and is certain they will get a decent trade.
