A MURDER investigation has been launched into the death of a Bolton-upon-Dearne man who has died seven weeks after being injured in an incident outside a public house.
John Bailey, 37, of Ringway, died at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield on Friday of a head injury.
Police are linking the death to an incident at The Dearne, St Andrew’s Square between the late hours of Friday September 14 and early on of Saturday September 15.
He had been in the pub for several hours and was assaulted while he is believed to have been trying to calm a dispute involving a close relative.
Many people were socialising in The Dearne that night and police are appealing for them to come forward even if they did not witness the incident.
Three local men aged 30, 29 and 27 were arrested in connection with the investigation, but all have been released on bail pending further enquiries.
