PENISTONE Grammar School has been recognised by the Arts Council as an outstanding provider of art education.
It has been awarded a silver Artsmark - the second most prestigious gong of three on offer - which it can print on letterheads and logos similar to a charter mark. PGS performing arts leader Brent Read said: “The school has had a good arts tradition for quite a long time and we have been trying to add to it.
“I knew we would get an Artsmark but to get silver one was what really pleased us.”
Mr Read spent three months applying for the award and had to undergo an audit of the school’s arts curriculum before being given the good news earlier this month. The mark lasts for three years but can be reapplied for. More than 400 schools nationwide won the silver award.
