The grandma-of-five will celebrate her centenary with friends and family at Burntwood Court Hotel, Brierley, on Sunday.
Mary lived on Barnsley Road, Platts Common, until she was 97 and now stays at the Victoria House Nursing Home, Ryhill.
She was the eldest of nine and helped her mother bring up her eight brothers at their home at Greenlands, Blacker Hill.Niece Anne Wood, 70, said she has a reputation of being able to ‘talk plenty’ by all who know her.
She said: “She is a very kind-hearted person but she does have a loud bark, I remember that from when I was a kid.
“Her brothers thought the world of her and she did them. Her brothers and her mum always came first. Mary has always loved helping people.”
